Focus: Your Superpower

The power of focus.; The ability to set your mind on a task or goal and follow-through. The ability to keep distractions out of the way and stay committed to finishing the task. The challenge for successful people and successful organizations is to manage attention…to pay attention…in a world full of distractions. Here are a few key concepts that may help you, and those around you, stay focused.

Intention is key. You must “want to” achieve the desired result. Before starting a task, take a moment to set your intention. What do you want to achieve? Why is this task important? Having a clear intention will help you stay focused and motivated.

Eliminate distractions. This means both external distractions (your phone, social media, and the internet) and internal distractions (worries, doubts). The more distractions you can eliminate, the easier it will be to focus on what it is that you want to accomplish.

Take breaks. It's important to take breaks when you're working on a task, even if it's just for a few minutes. This will help you stay refreshed and focused.

Be patient. It takes time to learn how to focus effectively. Don't get discouraged if you don't see results immediately. Don’t dwell on what went wrong. Instead focus on what to do next…become a problem solver not a problem identifier. Just keep practicing and you'll eventually get better at it. Self-improvement is a process…the journey takes time.

Be flexible. There's no one-size-fits-all approach to managing attention. What works for one person might not work for another.

The ability to achieve and maintain focus can be a game changer for any person or organization. The key is to do one thing at a time, do it really well, and then, move on to the next thing. Each of these small steps will help you strive in a positive direction towards the completion of your goals. Enjoy the ride.
